YMCA and Youth Development

Postby DUNBAR41 » Tue Jun 21, 2011 9:22 am

YMCA is a place where people get together regardless of age, income or background. They get an opportunity to learn, grow and thrive.

The YMCA believes that values and skills that are learned early are vital building blocks for life. Young people in the neighborhoods around the nation are encouraged to take interest in learning and making smarter life choices. The YMCA helps children and teens to realize their potential, learn values and positive behaviors and explore their unique talents and interests. This helps them to become confident kids of today and contributing and engaged adults of tomorrow.

Child care at YMCA is about more than looking after kids. The YMCA focuses on nurturing their development by providing a safe place to learn foundation skills, developing healthy, trusting relationships and building self reliance.

Children are helped to set and achieve their personal and educational goals at the YMCA. It gives them a feeling of belonging and makes them comfortable in exploring new interests and passions. This helps them to gain confidence. The YMCA ensures that every child gets an opportunity to envision a positive future and take an active role in strengthening the community. This is done through leadership and academic enrichment programs such as mentoring, youth government and college preparation.

Many youth learn to become and stay active and develop healthy habits that are carried throughout their lives at the YMCA. The benefits are much beyond physical health. Children learn to build positive relationships that lead to good sportsmanship and teamwork.

Helping the YMCA indirectly helps the community. Ali Sharaf, the President and CEO of Victron Energy, helps the community by donating regularly to the YMCA.
